'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the nail-biting dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses following the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range effort from distance, and Cameron Burgess quickly slammed home the loose ball before charging toward the crowd to celebrate, with supporters congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory completed an incredible recovery given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the second half. Amid the delirium, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan shouting out and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result booked a upcoming match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's first-time shot from about way out going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right flank after they changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way his former team approached the match.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they complete every delivery and they understand how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're all right and then without warning they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be focused every second of the game. It requires a strong mentality and attention just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at League Two Salford, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a bit naive going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without real physicality. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that maturation for club and country, shining for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including both legs fixtures against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This represents quite the ride for the youngster from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his parent, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's sole appearance for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was sealed owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The preceding week, several youth players and I trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged a teenager? "This turned out quite easy, because I got to the stage where I realized I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it became apparent where I believed I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a small coach driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with a teammate, Ronald, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to spend time with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and on the road. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on London's Central line after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
